Sardinia, with its 1,840 kilometers of largely untouched coastline, crystal-clear, unpolluted waters, extremely temperate climate and long summer season, has become one of the most sought-after summer holiday areas. Also of interest are its rugged internal areas where nature takes us back to its primordial past with flora and fauna rarely found in the rest of Europe.
Among the numerous possible itineraries to follow by boat, we suggest the following:
Palau - Cala Corsara - Poltu Quatu
On leaving the port of Palau set sail for the island of Spargi where you can drop anchor in less than an hour, 4 miles, at Cala Corsara. In the bay are its characteristic smooth granite rock, crystal-clear water and fine white sand. An excellent shelter from the mistral. In the afternoon, hoist anchor and sail through the islands in the archipelago towards Poltu Quatu. The port, at a distance of 9 miles, lies in a natural inlet that is very narrow and deep.
Poltu Quatu - Golfo della Marinella - Porto Rotondo
Passing in front of Porto Cervo and sailing east, you will reach the Golfo della Marinella after approximately a 2-hour, 12 mile sail. It has a lovely bay with a long, 500-meter beach of snow-white sand.
Porto Rotondo - Santa Teresa di Gallura - Porto Cervo
Sailing north for three miles, after just a half hour you will reach Cala di Volpe with its long beach and famous hotel of the same name. It is an excellent shelter against most winds and, as a result, the roadstead is mainly used by large yachts. Leaving port, set sail towards Porto Cervo with a sailing time of one hour, 7 miles.
Porto Cervo - Cala Spalmatore - La Maddalena
From the island of Caprera, dock at Cala Spalmatore, the splendid bay north-east of Maddalena Island. The distance is 10 miles, about one-and-a-half hours sailing time. Here, using the tender, take a trip to enjoy its rugged coastline.
Raise anchor and sail around Maddalena Island, going north to anchor after 10 miles at Cala Gavetta, the port of Maddalena.
La Maddalena - Santa Maria - Santa Teresa di Gallura
Leaving the port of Maddalena, sail towards the island of Santa Maria, located between the island of Spargi and the island of Maddalena, a 7 mile sail. There is a reef at the entrance to the cove of Santa Maria which must be gone around, either to the right or left.
This island is one of the northern-most points of the bay with crystal-clear water and good-holding sandy bottom. There is a small dock at the beach, but sail boats are not allowed to tie-up.
Santa Maria is the only one of the smaller islands of the archipelago that is inhabited during the summer.
Santa Teresa di Gallura - Lavezzi - Palau
The island of Lavezzi is 6 miles from Santa Teresa di Gallura and there you will find Cala Lazzarina on the south-west part of the island. Study the maps well before entering. The island is uninhabited, but even on the beach you may meet a donkey or a cow which, although not curious, always create confusion.
